Role Purpose:
The Director – Tax Services is a senior leadership role responsible for driving the strategic growth, technical excellence, and operational success of RSM Zambia’s Tax Services practice. The role combines deep technical expertise in domestic and international tax with visionary leadership, business development, and client relationship management. The Director will be a key member of the firm’s leadership team, influencing strategic direction, enhancing the firm’s market reputation, and shaping the future of the tax practice.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership:
Develop and execute the business plan for the Tax Services practice, ensuring growth, profitability, and market positioning.
Provide mentorship and professional development to the tax team, fostering a culture of high performance, innovation, and excellence.
Oversee operational and financial management, including budgeting, resource allocation, and risk management.
Technical Excellence & Client Advisory:
Serve as the firm’s foremost authority on Zambian tax law and complex international tax issues, including transfer pricing, tax treaties, permanent establishment, and global structuring.
Deliver high-value advisory services to key clients, providing strategic solutions for multi-jurisdictional corporate structures, mergers, acquisitions, and disposals.
Review and sign off on complex tax computations, opinions, and reports, ensuring technical accuracy and quality.
Monitor changes in local and international tax legislation and advise clients and internal teams on implications.
Business Development & Growth:
Identify and capitalize on new market opportunities to grow the tax practice.
Leverage professional networks and reputation to originate business and maintain a robust pipeline of high-value engagements.
Lead pitch teams, negotiate complex advisory mandates, and represent RSM Zambia in the market.
Promote the RSM brand through thought leadership, industry forums, and public speaking engagements.
Client Relationship Management:
Serve as a trusted advisor to C-suite executives and boards of top-tier clients.
Maintain and deepen client relationships, ensuring exceptional service delivery and identifying opportunities for additional services.
Qualifications & Experience:
Chartered Accountant (ACCA, ZICA, CA Zambia) or Lawyer specializing in Tax.
12–15 years of progressive tax experience, with substantial exposure to complex international and cross-border matters.
Proven experience leading teams and managing profitable business units.
Strong track record in business development and client relationship management.
Skills & Competencies:
Mastery of Zambian corporate tax, VAT, withholding tax, OECD guidelines, BEPS 2.0, transfer pricing, and double tax treaties.
Strategic thinker with commercial acumen and a visionary approach to practice growth.
Exceptional negotiation and influencing skills.
Inspiring leadership and team development capabilities.
Clear and effective communicator, able to translate complex tax concepts for non-specialists.
Strong business sense, with a focus on delivering client value and profitability.
