The Security Officer protects personnel, property, and assets by patrolling premises, monitoring surveillance (CCTV) systems, and controlling access points. Key duties include detecting suspicious activity, preventing theft or vandalism, responding to alarms/emergencies, and writing detailed incident reports. They ensure compliance with safety protocols and maintain a secure environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Patrolling: Regularly inspect premises, including doors, windows, and gates, to prevent unauthorized access or safety hazards.
- Access Control: Monitor entrances and exits, verify visitor credentials, and manage badges or logs.
- Surveillance: Monitor CCTV cameras, alarm systems, and security equipment for disturbances or unlawful acts.
- Emergency Response: Act as a first responder to fires, medical emergencies, or security breaches, coordinating with law enforcement when necessary.
- Reporting: Prepare detailed, accurate daily logs and incident reports.
- Enforcement: Enforce company policies, safety rules, and, if authorized, detain trespassers until police arrive.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Physical Fitness: Ability to stand or walk for long periods and patrol large areas.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills for reporting and interacting with the public.
- Observation: High level of attention to detail and ability to identify potential risks.
- Licensing: Must meet local state/regional requirements, often including a background check and certification.
- Experience: Previous security or law enforcement experience is preferred.
