JOB DESCRIPTION – FORMWORK CARPENTER
Job Title: Formwork Carpenter
Department: Construction
Reports To: Site Supervisor / Foreman
Purpose of the Job
To construct, install, and dismantle formwork and shuttering systems used for concrete structures in accordance with project drawings, specifications, and safety standards.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Measure, cut, assemble, and install timber, plywood, and metal formwork.
- Construct formwork for foundations, columns, beams, slabs, staircases, and walls.
- Ensure formwork is properly aligned, leveled, and secured before concrete placement.
- Inspect formwork for strength, accuracy, and safety.
- Dismantle formwork after concrete has achieved the required strength.
- Maintain and store tools and materials properly.
- Work closely with steel fixers, masons, and other construction workers.
- Observe all company safety procedures and site regulations.
- Report defects, hazards, and material shortages to supervisors.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Grade 9 or Grade 12 Certificate.
- Trade Certificate in Carpentry or relevant construction experience.
- Minimum 2 years' experience in formwork carpentry.
- Ability to read construction drawings.
- Physically fit and able to work at heights.
JOB DESCRIPTION – STEEL WORKER (STEEL FIXER)
Job Title: Steel Worker / Steel Fixer
Department: Construction
Reports To: Site Supervisor / Foreman
Purpose of the Job
To cut, bend, position, and secure reinforcing steel bars and mesh used in concrete construction projects according to engineering drawings and specifications.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Read and interpret reinforcement drawings and bar bending schedules.
- Measure, cut, bend, and prepare steel reinforcement bars.
- Fix and tie reinforcement steel for foundations, columns, beams, slabs, walls, and other structures.
- Install steel mesh and reinforcement cages as required.
- Ensure reinforcement is positioned correctly and securely before concrete placement.
- Use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Inspect completed work for compliance with project specifications.
- Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition.
- Follow all site safety regulations and company policies.
- Report safety hazards, damaged materials, or quality concerns to supervisors.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Grade 9 or Grade 12 Certificate.
- Trade Certificate in Steel Fixing or relevant construction experience.
- Minimum 2 years' experience in reinforcement steel fixing.
- Ability to read and understand reinforcement drawings.
- Physically fit and capable of performing manual work.
