Job Summary
The refrigeration operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation, monitoring, and maintenance of refrigeration systems that support manufacturing operations. The role ensures that refrigeration equipment operates at optimal performance to maintain product quality, food safety standards, and continuous production while complying with company policies and health and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate, monitor, and maintain refrigeration and air conditioning systems to ensure efficient performance.
- Conduct routine inspections of compressors, condensers, evaporators, cooling towers, pumps, valves, and associated equipment.
- Monitor system pressures, temperatures, refrigerant levels, and operating parameters, making adjustments as required.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance and report equipment faults or abnormalities promptly.
- Troubleshoot refrigeration system issues and coordinate with the maintenance team to minimize downtime.
- Maintain accurate operating logs, maintenance records, and shift reports.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and food safety regulations.
- Respond promptly to equipment alarms, emergencies, and breakdowns.
- Maintain good housekeeping standards within the refrigeration plant.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system efficiency and reliability.
Qualifications
- Diploma in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning or an equivalent qualification.
- Grade 12 School Certificate.
- Relevant certification or professional training in industrial refrigeration will be an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years' experience operating industrial refrigeration systems in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and monitoring refrigeration equipment is required.

- Sound knowledge of industrial refrigeration systems and refrigeration principles.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, drawings, and operating procedures.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays when required.
