The Zambia Institute of Mass Communication (ZAMCOM) was established under the ZAMCOM Act of Parliament of 1996 to provide Communications and Media training and production services.
ZAMCOM is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates to fill in the following position at ZAMCOM Lodge;
COOK
Reporting to Chef
Job Purpose
The Cook will be responsible for preparing and cooking quality meals in accordance with approved menus and recipes while maintaining high standards of food hygiene, safety, and cleanliness. The incumbent will support the Chef in the day-to-day kitchen operations to ensure efficient food service at ZAMCOM.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook meals in accordance with established menus and recipes
- Ensure food is prepared, portioned, and presented to the required standards
- Assist the Chef in food preparation and meal planning
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the kitchen, utensils, and workstations.
- Adhere to food safety, sanitation, and health regulations at all times
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and rotation of food items
- Assist in monitoring stock levels and report shortages to the Chef
- Minimize food wastage through proper food handling and portion control
- Operate kitchen equipment safely and report any faults or maintenance requirements
- Support the Chef in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the kitchen
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Chef
Qualifications Required
- Grade Twelve (12) Certificate.
- Certificate in Food Production, Professional Cookery, or an equivalent qualification will be an added advantage.
Relevant Experience Required
- Minimum of one (1) year of work experience as a Cook at a Lodge, restaurant, or similar catering environment.
- Basic knowledge of local and international cuisine.
- Familiarity with food safety and hygiene standards.
Knowledge and Skills Required
- Good food preparation and cooking skills.
- Knowledge of food hygiene and sanitation practices.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately.
- Good time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain high standards of cleanliness and professionalism.
