We are looking for an experienced, passionate, and hard-working Cook to join our back-of-house team. Responsibilities:
Food Preparation & Cooking:
Prepare and cook menu items (both African and Western dishes) to high standards of taste, presentation, and consistency.
Handle daily prep work, including washing, peeling, chopping, and portioning ingredients (meat, vegetables, sauces).
Ensure all food is prepared and plated in a timely manner, keeping up with busy rush hours.
Kitchen Hygiene & Food Safety:
Maintain a spotlessly clean, organized, and sanitary workstation at all times.
Strictly follow food safety guidelines regarding food storage, temperature control, and handling.
Assist with washing dishes, cleaning kitchen equipment, and sanitizing prep areas at the end of shifts.
Inventory & Waste Management:
Monitor stock levels of ingredients and report low stock to management.
Practice portion control to minimize food waste while maintaining quality.
Ensure proper rotation of stock (First In, First Out).
Teamwork:
Communicate clearly and effectively with the waitstaff (front-of-house) to ensure orders are correct and sent out promptly.
Collaborate with other kitchen staff to keep the kitchen running smoothly and efficiently.
Requirements & Qualifications:
Experience: Proven prior experience working as a cook or kitchen assistant in a professional, busy restaurant setting is strictly required.
Location: Must reside in Silverest or very close proximity (strongly preferred to ensure punctual arrival for morning prep or late-night closing shifts).
Skills:
Solid knowledge of both local Zambian/African dishes and Western cuisine.
Strong knife skills and understanding of basic professional cooking techniques.
Excellent time management and ability to remain calm and focused under high pressure.
Strict adherence to personal hygiene and kitchen sanitation standards.
