The Stock Controller is responsible for overseeing and maintaining accurate inventory records while ensuring effective stock control procedures across all company warehouses and depots. The role ensures that stock movements are accurately recorded, reconciled, and monitored to safeguard company inventory and support efficient business operations.
The position involves monitoring stock receipts, transfers, issues, and returns, conducting regular stock reconciliations and physical stock counts, investigating inventory variances, and implementing corrective actions to minimize losses. The Stock Controller works closely with depot teams, procurement, logistics, finance, and operations to ensure inventory accuracy, timely reporting, and compliance with company policies and procedures.
The role also supports management by providing accurate inventory reports, improving inventory management processes, minimizing stock discrepancies, and ensuring optimal stock availability to enhance operational efficiency and customer service.
Key Qualifications and Competencies
- Full Grade 12 Certificate with five (5) credits or better.
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Procurement, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field.
- Professional qualification in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Procurement, Inventory Management, or related discipline (added advantage).
- Minimum of 3–5 years' experience in inventory management, stock control, warehouse operations, or a similar role.
- Demonstrated experience in inventory reconciliation, stock variance analysis, and warehouse controls.
- Strong understanding of inventory management principles and internal stock control procedures.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for inventory analysis and reporting.
- Working knowledge of Sage Evolution 200 or similar inventory management systems (added advantage).
- Excellent analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong reporting, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to investigate stock discrepancies and recommend corrective actions.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet reporting deadlines.
- Valid driver's license (added advantage).
