Job Overview:
The Driver will be Responsible for transporting medical staff, equipment, and supplies to various locations, ensuring the safety and timely delivery of services. The driver will also be expected to maintain the vehicle in good working condition and comply with all safety and traffic regulations.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- To drive vehicles in order to facilitate mobility in the operations of PMSL
- To ensure safe custody of any motor vehicles assigned to him/her.
- To keep and maintain an update log-book for vehicles in order to facilitate and monitor its authorized and efficient use.
- To carry out daily basic inspection to the assigned motor vehicles in order to ascertain their road worthy.
- To under-take comprehensive maintenance service of all company vehicles.
- To liaise with company approved garages for major repairs of all company cars.
- To make regular assessments of all company cars’ road worthy.
- Ensure all vehicle accessories such spare tire, jack, triangles are available on each car
- Monitor the validity of road tax, fitness and insurance on all vehicles and advice management accordingly being driven
- Maintain a record of the current serial numbers of tires for each vehicle including and any other new ones (replacements)
- Ensure that you follow all road regulations in order to avoid fines
- Maintain cleanliness of all vehicles
- Report any accident involving company vehicle to management immediately
- Any other responsibilities that are assigned to you by your superiors relevant to your job
Qualifications and Experience
- A valid driver’s license (Class C) with a clean driving record.
- At least 2 years of experience as a driver, preferably in a healthcare, medical, or logistics setting.
- Previous experience as an ambulance driver or in a similar role in a healthcare setting is preferred, but not mandatory.
- Grade 12 certificate is an added advantage.
- Qualification in Automatic Mechanic is an added advantage.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of Lusaka’s road network and the quickest routes.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with staff, patients, and the public.
- Excellent driving skills with a focus on safety and professionalism.
- Must be physically fit to assist with loading and unloading items.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, if necessary.
