Job Title: Basecamp Supervisor
Location: CLZ Base Camp, Lower Zambezi, Zambia
Background: Conservation Lower Zambezi (CLZ) was established in 1994 and is a non-profit organisation committed to the protection of wildlife and the sustainable use of natural resources in the Lower Zambezi in Zambia. The organisation works in collaboration with Zambia’s local wildlife authority – the Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW) to ensure the sustainability of the wildlife and people in the Lower Zambezi National Park and surrounding Game Management Areas.
Job Description: CLZ is looking for a motivated and organised Basecamp Supervisor to join our team. This role is at the heart of CLZ, ensuring the smooth running of Basecamp while also managing events, public relations, and CLZ’s online presence.
Purpose of the role:
- Overseeing the daily management and upkeep of CLZ Basecamp.
- Welcoming and hosting visitors, partners and staff.
- Organise and co-ordinate annual fundraisers and other major events.
- Coordinating Basecamp events and activities.
- Managing CLZ’s social media platforms and online presence.
- Supporting public relations and outreach efforts to strengthen CLZ’s visibility.
Key Responsibilities:
Basecamp Management
- Oversee day-to-day Basecamp operations and ensure facilities are clean, safe, and functional.
- Manage staff, supplies, stock, and logistics.
- Prepare procurement lists of food/other supplies for Basecamp and projects.
- Manage and oversee inventory and checks of all kitchen equipment, room linen and accessories.
- Manage accommodation bookings, communication with guests and report on monthly numbers.
- Conduct camp tours for visitors as required.
- Develop menus for camp, visitor groups, school groups, etc.
- Coordinate repairs and maintenance as needed.
- Provide a welcoming environment for staff, visitors, and partners.
Events & Public Relations
- Plan and deliver Basecamp events (meetings, community gatherings, and other activities).
- Organise and coordinate annual fundraisers and other major external events.
- Represent CLZ positively to visitors, partners, and the community.
- Liaise with photographers, film crew and media personnel on content for CLZ.
- Manage and coordinate interactions with local and international media.
Social Media & Online Presence
- Manage and grow CLZ’s social media platforms.
- Create engaging content (posts, photos, videos, stories) to highlight CLZ’s work and Basecamp activities.
- Ensure branding and messaging align with CLZ’s mission.
- Monitor engagement and report on online reach.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Diploma or Degree in Hospitality Management, Communications, Public Relations, Event Management, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent professional experience).
- Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in administration, hospitality, camp management, or a related coordination role.
- Demonstrated experience in organising events.
- Proven experience managing social media platforms and creating engaging content.
- Experience working with diverse stakeholders (staff, partners, community, guests).
- Strong computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with Canva, scheduling tools, or similar software an advantage).
- Photography, videography, or graphic design skills are an asset.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Experience in conservation, tourism, or NGO sector (advantage).
- High level of integrity
