As part of our continued expansion, PG Meats seeks to recruit a highly skilled and experienced Accountant to strengthen our financial systems and support the company’s growth. The ideal candidate must have experience working within a meat production or food processingenvironment and be capable of performing advanced accounting and financial management functions.
ROLE OVERVIEW
The Accountant will oversee day-to-day financial operations, ensure accurate reporting, maintain strong internal controls, and support strategic financial planning. This senior-level role will require hands-on financial management, including budgeting, statutory compliance, cost accounting, and providing operational support to enhance business performance.
KEY RESULT AREAS
1. Financial Management & Reporting
- Ensure accuracy and compliance of all financial transactions with accounting standards.
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Maintain the general ledger, perform reconciliations, and ensure proper cost allocations.
- Process supplier invoices, manage accounts payable and receivable, and monitor cash flow projections.
- Provide timely financial reports to management and key stakeholders.
2. Costing & Inventory Accounting
- Maintain accurate costing models for meat production and processing activities.
- Monitor production costs, wastage, yields, and variance reports.
- Support operations teams with cost analysis to enhance efficiency and profitability.
3. Budgeting & Financial Planning
- Support preparation and management of annual budgets and forecasts.
- Track budget performance and recommend cost-control measures.
- Assist in developing financial policies and frameworks to enhance accountability.
4. Compliance & Statutory Reporting
- Ensure compliance with ZRA, NAPSA, NHIMA, Workers’ Compensation, and other regulatory bodies.
- Prepare and submit VAT, PAYE, corporate tax, and statutory returns on time.
- Facilitate audits through proper documentation and timely queries resolution.
5. Internal Controls & Risk Management
- Implement and maintain effective financial controls to safeguard company assets.
- Identify financial risks and propose mitigation measures.
- Promote transparency, integrity, and adherence to internal control procedures.
6. Cash Flow & Treasury Management
- Monitor daily cash flow and ensure adequate liquidity for operations.
- Support treasury functions, including bank reconciliations and relationships with financial institutions.
7. Operational & Strategic Support
- Provide financial insights to management to support data-driven decision-making.
- Collaborate with production and operations teams on cost optimization and resource planning.
- Support financial oversight of company initiatives and growth strategies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Grade 12 School Certificate.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Professional qualification: ACCA, CIMA, or CA Zambia.
- Full membership with the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA).
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant accounting experience, including:
- Experience at senior or supervisory accounting role.
- Mandatory experience in a meat production, food processing, or manufacturing environment.
