Job Summary
The Mechanical Assistant position is an entry-level technical support role within the Transport Management function. This position provides crucial hands-on assistance to the Agricultural Technicians and the workshop team in the maintenance, repair, and preparation of agricultural equipment and the wider fleet. The primary focus is on learning and executing basic mechanical tasks, maintaining workshop, and ensuring the smooth flow of support operations. This role is ideal for a candidate with a strong mechanical aptitude who is eager to develop specialized skills in agricultural machinery.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Workshop & Field Assistance
- Assist Agricultural Technicians in the disassembly, repair, and reassembly of agricultural equipment, including tractors, implements, and attachments.
- Perform basic mechanical tasks under supervision, such as changing oils and filters, replacing brakes, greasing fittings, and installing batteries and tires.
- Support field service operations by preparing tools, parts, and equipment for service calls and assisting on-site as required.
- Help in conducting pre-delivery inspections (PDI) and preparing equipment for demonstrations.
2. Workshop Maintenance & Tool Management
- Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and safety of the workshop, service trucks, and storage areas.
- Manage tooling by ensuring all tools are cleaned, calibrated, and stored correctly after use.
- Assist with the receiving, unpacking, and organization of spare parts and supplies.
3. Parts & Inventory Support
- Work with the Parts Officer and Technicians to locate and retrieve parts from inventory.
- Help in managing the core return process and ensuring the workshop's bin levels are maintained.
- Learn to identify common parts for the agricultural equipment fleet.
4. Operational Support
- Assist in the movement and positioning of vehicles and equipment within the workshop and yard.
- Perform basic checks on fleet vehicles, such as verifying fluid levels, tire pressure, and light functionality.
- Support the team with administrative tasks related to repair orders and service documentation.
5. Compliance & Safety
- Adhere strictly to all company Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies at all times.
- Learn and apply proper safety procedures when handling tools, equipment, and hazardous materials.
- Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required for all tasks.

- Task completion time and quality under supervision

- Adherence to safety protocols (zero safety violations)
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- SSCE/WAEC required; OND/NCE in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Technology, or a related field is preferred.
- 0-2 years of experience in a mechanical or workshop environment. A strong passion for mechanics is essential.
- Basic understanding of hand tools, power tools, and mechanical systems.
- Willingness to learn about agricultural machinery and heavy-duty vehicles.
- A valid driver's license is an advantage.
- A requirement of this role is the successful verification of all academic and professional qualifications by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
