Job Title: Head of Department – Mathematics
Role Overview
The HOD Mathematics is a middle leadership position accountable to the Vice Principal. The primary purpose is to secure high-quality teaching and learning that enables every student to fulfil their potential while fostering an appreciation for the beauty and utility of mathematics.
Key Responsibility Areas:
· Mission Integration: Actively animate the school’s Jesuit mission by incorporating Ignatian pedagogy—context, experience, reflection, action, and evaluation—into the mathematics curriculum.
· Strategic Leadership: Develop a clear departmental vision and annual action plans that align with the school’s strategic goals and Jesuit values.
· Curriculum & Assessment: Lead the design and continuous review of a rigorous, differentiated curriculum and oversee data-driven assessment practices.
· Staff Development: Mentor and appraise departmental staff, fostering a culture of professional growth, collaborative "open classrooms," and high morale.
· Student Achievement: Track student progress using robust data analysis to identify and implement effective interventions for underachieving students.
· Resource Management: Manage departmental budgets, digital tools and physical learning spaces effectively.
Qualifications & Experience
· Education: Minimum of a bachelors degree in Mathematics (or a closely related discipline) and registered Teacher with valid practising Licence.
· Experience: A minimum of 3 years of successful Mathematics teaching, often with experience in high-performing schools and previous leadership roles.
· Expertise: Deep knowledge of different curricula (e.g., ECZ, IGCSE, A-Levels) and current pedagogical developments.
· Safeguarding: A commitment to child protection, requiring a clean enhanced disclosure..
