Role Overview
The Customs Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing customs clearing activities across inland offices, border posts, and bonded warehouse operations. The role ensures regulatory compliance, operational discipline, effective team leadership, and consistent service delivery across all locations.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day customs clearing operations across multiple sites and border stations.
- Ensure consistent application of clearing procedures, documentation standards, and turnaround timelines.
- Set daily operational priorities and manage urgent or high-risk shipments.
- Provide leadership to supervisors, clearing staff, and border teams, ensuring accountability and discipline.
- Conduct regular operational reviews and performance check-ins with key team members.
- Ensure compliance with customs legislation, bond requirements, and regulatory procedures.
- Lead customs audits, inspections, queries, and engagements with authorities.
- Monitor bond exposure and operational risks, addressing issues proactively.
- Review operational performance, clearance timelines, and outstanding workloads.
- Manage client escalations and support strong service delivery.
- Maintain effective working relationships with customs authorities, transporters, and other stakeholders.
Experience & Skills
- Minimum 7 years’ experience in customs clearing operations, including border environments.
- Proven experience managing multi-site or border-based teams.
- Strong working knowledge of customs procedures, bonds, and bonded warehouse operations.
- Ability to operate effectively in high-pressure, time-sensitive environments.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
