Role Summary
The Web Developer & Website Administrator is responsible for designing, developing, maintaining, and supporting the organization’s websites, web applications, and hosting platforms. The role combines modern web development with practical website administration and client support. The ideal candidate should have a solid foundation in web technologies, willingness to learn, and the ability to work independently.
Key Responsibilities
· Design, develop, and maintain websites and web applications.
· Build front-end interfaces using HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, and optional
modern frameworks such as React.
· Develop server-side features using PHP or another backend language.
· Implement responsive, mobile-friendly layouts and accessibility best
practices.
· Manage website content updates and improvements.
· Develop and manage websites using CMS platforms such as WordPress
or Joomla.
· Provide training to clients or internal teams on CMS usage.
· Deploy websites to hosting environments and manage basic Linux or
Windows server configurations.
· Maintain domain, DNS, SSL certificates, backups, and general hosting
infrastructure.
· Monitor server and website performance, uptime, and resource usage.
· Troubleshoot website and hosting-related issues promptly.
· Liaise with clients to gather requirements and propose suitable technical
solutions.
· Provide support to customers for website-related issues.
· Ensure security best practices are followed, including patching and
updates.
· Generate weekly or monthly performance reports on websites and hosting
platforms.
· Collaborate with the networks team on related IT tasks when required.
Knowledge, Skills & Attributes
· Solid understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and at least one backend
language (PHP preferred).
· Basic knowledge of MySQL/MariaDB or PostgreSQL databases.
· Familiarity with hosting concepts including DNS, SSL, and server
environments.
· Knowledge of WordPress or similar CMS platforms.
· Good troubleshooting and analytical skills.
· Strong time management and communication abilities.
· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
· Willingness to learn modern tools such as cloud hosting, Docker, and
modern JavaScript frameworks.
Qualifications & Experience
· Grade 12 Certificate.
· Diploma or Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a
related field.
· Experience in web development (academic, freelance, or professional).
· Additional training or certifications are an advantage but not required.
