The IT Intern will provide technical and administrative support to the organization’s information technology function and assist in ensuring the smooth operation of digital systems, devices, software, and online platforms used by the education consultancy. The role is designed to give the intern practical exposure to IT support, systems maintenance, digital record management, website and platform support, and basic troubleshooting within a professional office environment.
The successful candidate will support day-to-day technology needs of staff while also contributing to the improvement of digital processes that enhance service delivery to students, parents, institutional partners, and other stakeholders.
2. Key Responsibilities
The IT Intern shall, under supervision, perform the following duties:
2.1 Technical Support
Provide first-level technical support to staff by assisting with troubleshooting of computers, printers, internet connectivity, email access, software issues, and other basic IT-related concerns. The intern will help identify, report, and where possible resolve hardware and software problems in a timely manner.
2.2 Hardware and Equipment Maintenance
Assist in setting up, installing, and maintaining desktop computers, laptops, printers, scanners, routers, and other office IT equipment. This includes checking equipment functionality, ensuring proper connectivity, and reporting faults requiring advanced technical intervention.
2.3 Software Installation and Updates
Support the installation, configuration, and updating of approved software applications used within the consultancy. The intern will also assist in ensuring that systems are regularly updated and functioning effectively.
2.4 Data Management and Record Keeping
Assist in organizing, backing up, and maintaining electronic files, databases, student records, and internal digital documents in line with company procedures. The role requires careful handling of confidential information and adherence to data protection standards.
2.5 Website and Digital Platform Support
Provide support in updating website content, online application portals, digital communication tools, and other educational technology platforms used by the consultancy. The intern may assist in ensuring that information displayed online is accurate, current, and user-friendly.
2.6 User Account and Email Support
Assist in creating, updating, and managing user accounts, email access, passwords, and permissions under the guidance of the responsible supervisor. The intern will help maintain secure access to company systems and digital tools.
2.7 Network and Connectivity Support
Provide support in monitoring internet and network connectivity within the office and reporting any disruptions. The intern may assist with basic router, modem, or local area network checks as assigned.
2.8 Cybersecurity and System Safety Awareness
Support the implementation of basic IT security practices, including antivirus checks, password management guidance, safe handling of devices, and awareness of phishing or unauthorized access risks. The intern must observe confidentiality and safeguard company information at all times.
2.9 Digital Innovation and Process Improvement
Assist in identifying opportunities to improve office efficiency through technology. This may include helping automate simple tasks, improving digital filing systems, supporting online meeting platforms, and recommending practical IT solutions suited to the consultancy’s operations.
2.10 Training and User Assistance
Provide basic guidance to staff on the use of common office applications, online systems, and digital tools where needed. This includes offering support on video conferencing platforms, document management tools, and email usage.
2.11 Reporting
Maintain proper records of issues handled, work completed, and pending IT tasks. The intern may be required to prepare simple reports or updates on technical support activities undertaken during the internship period.
2.12 Any Other Duties
Perform any other IT-related duties as may be reasonably assigned by management from time to time in line with the objectives of the internship.
3. Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate should possess:
3.1 A Diploma or Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or currently pursuing such qualification.
3.2 Basic knowledge of computer hardware, software installation, networking concepts, and troubleshooting procedures.
3.3 Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications, email systems, internet tools, and common office technologies.
3.4 Basic understanding of websites, databases, and digital platforms will be an added advantage.
3.5 Prior internship, attachment, project work, or practical exposure in IT support will be an added advantage, though not mandatory.
