Job Purpose
The Tax Senior is responsible for managing tax compliance and advisory assignments, ensuring clients meet their statutory obligations while providing quality tax solutions. The role involves supervising junior team members, reviewing tax computations and returns, liaising with tax authorities, and supporting business development initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Compliance
- Prepare and review corporate income tax returns, PAYE, VAT, withholding tax, and other statutory tax returns.
- Ensure timely filing of tax returns and payment of taxes for clients.
- Prepare and review tax computations and supporting schedules.
- Monitor changes in tax legislation and advise clients and internal teams accordingly.
- Assist clients with tax registrations, deregistrations, and tax clearance processes.
Tax Advisory
- Conduct tax research and provide practical tax advice to clients.
- Assist in the preparation of tax opinions, reports, and advisory memoranda.
- Support tax planning initiatives and identify tax-saving opportunities for clients.
- Advise clients on the tax implications of transactions, restructurings, and investments.
Tax Audits and Disputes
- Assist clients during tax audits, investigations, and assessments.
- Prepare responses to queries raised by tax authorities.
- Liaise with regulatory authorities on behalf of clients.
- Support the resolution of tax disputes and objections.
Client Relationship Management
- Maintain effective relationships with clients and ensure excellent service delivery.
- Identify opportunities for additional services and cross-selling.
- Participate in client meetings and presentations.
Team Leadership and Supervision
- Supervise, mentor, and coach Tax Associates and Tax Trainees.
- Review work prepared by junior staff and provide constructive feedback.
- Assist in staff training and development initiatives.
- Allocate assignments and monitor progress to ensure deadlines are met.
Quality and Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with firm policies, professional standards, and quality management procedures.
- Maintain accurate and complete engagement documentation.
- Adhere to confidentiality, ethics, and information security requirements.
Qualifications and Experience
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Taxation, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
Professional Qualifications
- ACCA, CIMA, ZICA, CPA, or equivalent professional qualification.
- Tax-related certification will be an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum of 3–5 years of relevant tax experience in a professional services firm or corporate environment.
- Experience in tax compliance, advisory, and tax dispute resolution.

- Review and approve work prepared by junior team members.
