Job description : The accountant will be responsible for providing financial and administrative support to ensure efficient and effective financial operation, enabling the organization to achieve its financial strategic objectives.
key responsibilities: responsibilities will include maintaining financial records, ensuring compliance with Zambian tax laws, preparing financial reports, managing payroll, and assisting with audits, also responsible for tasks like accounts payable/receivable, bank reconciliations, and managing petty cash, while also providing financial analysis to support business decisions.
Financial reporting and analysis
- Prepare and maintain accurate financial statements, including monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
- Record and manage financial transactions, ensuring all are properly coded and documented.
- Conduct financial analysis to support strategic decision-making and provide insights to management.
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes.
Compliance and auditing
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of all tax returns, including VAT, income tax, and PAYE, NHIMA,NAPSA and exemption claims and process.
- Ensure the company complies with all statutory obligations and financial policies.
- Assist with coordinating internal and external audits and preparing responses to audit queries.
Day-to-day accounting
- Process payroll, including calculating and withholding all applicable taxes and social payments.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable, including processing invoices and ensuring timely payments.
- Perform bank and general ledger reconciliations to identify and resolve discrepancies. ensuring all requisitions are approved and retired with supporting documents.
Other responsibilities
- Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure financial accuracy.
- Work with various software, such as accounting systems and Microsoft Excel, to complete tasks.
- Communicate and liaise with external stakeholders like auditors and tax authorities and managing petty cash, while also providing financial analysis to support business decisions.
Qualifications and Experience
- minimum of Diploma or degree in accounting or ACCA,CIMA,ZICA.
- At least 2 years of experience in an accounting or finance role.
