Legal Researcher/Analyst
Position Overview:
The Legal Researcher/Analyst conducts in-depth analysis of Zambia's legal and regulatory framework for mining. This role is critical for generating the evidence base that underpins MCI's advocacy and community legal empowerment initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive desk reviews and analysis of mining laws, regulations, and policies, including the Mining Act (2024).
- Produce detailed reports and legal briefs on the Zambian regulatory environment, identifying gaps and opportunities for reform.
- Support the Advocacy Lead by providing legal analysis for policy submissions and briefings.
- Develop plain-language legal guides and information sheets for mining communities.
- Monitor legal developments and landmark cases related to mining and human rights in Zambia.
Qualifications and Experience:
- A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree; a Master's degree (LLM) in a relevant field is an advantage.
- At least 8 years of experience in legal research, analysis, and writing.
- Strong understanding of Zambian mining and environmental law.
- Excellent analytical skills and the ability to communicate complex legal concepts to non-legal audiences.
