Overview
The Life and Health Underwriter is a full-time role based at our Lusaka office. The successful candidate will work closely with the underwriting team and other departments to evaluate and underwrite life and health insurance applications, ensuring balanced risk assessment and compliance with internal policies. Job Summary
· Review, evaluate, and underwrite applications for life and health insurance products.
· Analyze health and life risks associated with individual applicants and groups.
· Collaborate with brokers, agents, and internal teams to ensure effective underwriting processes.
· Develop and recommend appropriate pricing and policy terms.
· Maintain accurate records and documentation of underwriting activities.
· Assist in policy reviews, renewals, and risk profiling to optimize portfolio performance.
Key Responsibilities
· Assess insurance applications, medical reports, and related documentation to determine risk acceptability.
· Make informed underwriting decisions in line with company policies and guidelines.
· Prepare underwriting proposals and present cases for approval.
· Provide quotes and terms for new and renewal business.
· Foster strong relationships with Insurance/Life Assurance Companies & clients to facilitate smooth underwriting workflows.
· Monitor portfolio performance and recommend risk mitigation strategies.
· Participate in the preparation of tenders.
· Contribute to the development of new insurance products and risk assessment techniques.
· Monitor and update clients’ data.
· Initiate and support claims processes.
· Issue insurance cover and input data into the company system.
· Perform any additional duties assigned.
Skills, Experience & Personal Attributes
· Minimum of 2 years’ experience in life and health underwriting within the insurance industry.( Recent Graduates are also encouraged to apply)
· Sound knowledge of local and international insurance standards and regulations.
· Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
· Proficiency in insurance systems and MS Office applications.
· Demonstrable integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
· Customer-focused with a commitment to quality service. Marketing skills will be an added advantage.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Insurance, Actuarial Science, Business Administration, or a related field.
· Professional qualifications such as CII accreditation or equivalent will be an added advantage.
