The technician will be responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and repair of GPS and satellite-based tracking devices in a variety of vehicles, including cars, trucks, buses, and specialized fleet assets. He will ensure that tracking systems provide accurate, real-time data on vehicle location, speed, diagnostics, and other telematics parameters essential for fleet management, security, and compliance.
Core responsibilities:
- Installation and Integration: Fitting GPS/satellite tracking devices, antennas, and associated wiring into vehicles, ensuring seamless integration with vehicle electronics and diagnostic systems.
- System Configuration and Calibration: Programming devices, calibrating sensors, and verifying real-time data transmission to central monitoring platforms.
- Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Conducting routine checks, diagnosing faults, and repairing or replacing malfunctioning components.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintaining detailed records of installations, repairs, and inventory, and generating service reports.
- Customer Interaction: Educating clients on system operation, providing technical support, and ensuring customer satisfaction.
- CAN Bus Communication: Understanding the Controller Area Network protocol, message parsing, and integration with tracking devices. Ability to diagnose wiring and communication faults using diagnostic tools and software.
- Vehicle Electronics: Proficiency in reading wiring diagrams, identifying power sources, and safely interfacing with vehicle ECUs (Electronic Control Units).
- Sensor Integration: Installing and calibrating additional sensors (e.g., fuel level, temperature, accelerometers) for enhanced fleet management and driver behavior analysis.
- Networking Fundamentals: Configuring IP addresses, routers, and wireless modules (GSM/4G/LTE) for data transmission from vehicles to central servers.
- Protocols: Familiarity with MQTT (Message Queuing Telemetry Transport), HTTP, and proprietary telematics protocols for data exchange.
- Software Configuration: Using diagnostic and configuration software to program tracking devices, update firmware, and troubleshoot connectivity issues
Other requirements.
- To work independently or as part of larger teams, often traveling to customer sites or fleet depots.
- Technical expertise, problem-solving ability, and strong communication skills.
