The Occupational Health and Safety Officer is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring workplace health and safety policies to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and organizational standards. The role focuses on preventing workplace injuries, promoting employee well-being, and fostering a strong safety culture across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain occupational health and safety policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with national health and safety laws, regulations, and industry standards.
- Conduct regular workplace inspections and risk assessments.
- Identify hazards and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Investigate workplace incidents, accidents, and near-misses and prepare detailed reports.
- Develop and deliver health and safety training programs for employees.
- Maintain records of safety inspections, incidents, and compliance documentation.
- Coordinate emergency preparedness programs, including fire drills and evacuation procedures.
- Advise management on safety improvements and risk mitigation strategies.
- Liaise with regulatory authorities and external auditors on safety matters.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Safety Management, Engineering, or related field.
- Professional certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA certification) is highly preferred.
- Minimum 5-10 years of relevant experience in occupational health and safety management.
- Strong knowledge of workplace health and safety regulations and compliance standards.
- Experience conducting risk assessments and incident investigations.
