Lusaka West Medical Center is a soon to open private health facility in Lusaka looking to recruit a dynamic individual to fill the position of General Practitioner.
Job Description:
We are looking for a dedicated General Practitioner to join our dynamic clinical team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality, patient-centred medical care, ensuring accurate diagnosis of common ailments, effective treatment, and timely referrals where necessary. The ideal candidate should demonstrate sound clinical judgment, strong ethical standards, and a commitment to continuous professional development.
Responsibilities
- Attend to patients by conducting thorough history taking, clinical examination, diagnosis, and treatment in accordance with established medical standards.
- Respond promptly and efficiently to medical emergencies presenting to the health facility.
- Prescribe medications responsibly and ensure the rational use of pharmaceuticals.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests and utilize available support services (Laboratory, Radiology, Physiotherapy, etc.) appropriately.
- Refer patients to specialists or consultants when necessary and coordinate patient management plans.
- Maintain accurate, detailed, and confidential medical records.
- Supervise and mentor clinical and support staff where applicable.
- Participate in ward rounds, case discussions, and multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Promote preventive healthcare and patient education on disease and trauma management in addition to lifestyle modification.
- Observe strict medical ethics, professionalism, and patient confidentiality at all times.
- Keep abreast of medical advancements, emerging treatments, and clinical best practices.
Qualifications
- Grade 12 Certificate.
- MB ChB (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery), MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery), MD or equivalent.
- Prior clinical experience in a private hospital setting will be an added advantage.
- Fully registered with the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ) – Post Internship.
- Must possess a valid practicing license.
- Strong diagnostic, clinical, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership abilities.
- High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
- Computer literate and able to work effectively in an electronic medical records environment.
Reporting Line
The General Practitioner will report directly to the Executive Director of the Medical Center.
