Job Summary
The Project Accountant will be responsible for comprehensive financial management of Petrushka Trading Limited’s waste aggregation and collection project. The role will oversee budgeting, expenditure control, financial reporting, and compliance for the establishment of a waste aggregation factory, development of 10 Waste Collection Centres, deployment of an in-house garbage collection application, integration of 100 SMEs as waste aggregators, and expansion of the household customer base from 3,000 to 6,000 households.
The position plays a critical role in ensuring financial accountability, cost efficiency, and financial sustainability, while meeting donor, regulatory, and internal reporting requirements.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Financial Planning and Budget Management
- Develop and manage detailed project budgets covering factory construction, Waste Collection Centres, app development, SME integration, and household recruitment activities.
- Prepare financial forecasts and cash flow projections aligned with implementation plans and scale-up targets.
- Monitor budget utilization and recommend adjustments to ensure efficient use of project resources.
Financial Control and Reporting
- Track and record all project expenditures, including infrastructure costs, operational expenses, SME onboarding costs, and household recruitment and training expenses.
- Reconcile project accounts and manage invoices, payments, and reimbursements.
- Prepare accurate and timely financial reports for management, funders, investors, and regulators.
- Support preparation of periodic financial statements and project-specific cost reports.
Compliance, Audits, and Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with applicable financial regulations, donor requirements, and internal financial controls.
- Support internal and external audits and address audit findings.
- Conduct variance analysis and financial risk assessments to identify inefficiencies and cost-saving opportunities.
Revenue and Sustainability Analysis
- Track revenues and service fees associated with household customers and SME aggregation activities.
- Analyze cost per household served, cost per ton of waste aggregated, and overall project financial performance.
- Develop financial models to assess long-term business sustainability and scalability beyond the project period.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; CPA, ACCA, or equivalent professional certification preferred.
- Minimum of 2–5 years’ experience in project accounting, preferably in infrastructure, environmental, or development projects.
- Strong proficiency in accounting software and financial analysis tools.
- Demonstrated experience with donor-funded or investment-backed projects is an advantage.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and high standards of financial integrity.
