Job Summary:
The Auto Mechanic is responsible for performing maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on the company's fleet of sedans, SUVs, and pool cars. This role is critical to achieving our key goals of asset reliability, safety compliance, and cost management. The ideal candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented, and committed to maintaining the highest standards of workmanship.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Vehicle Maintenance & Repair:
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance services, including oil changes, lubrication, and tire rotations.
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues using diagnostic tools and manual techniques.
- Repair and replace faulty parts and components, such as brakes, engines, transmissions, and steering systems.
- Conduct thorough vehicle inspections to identify potential issues before they lead to breakdowns.
2. Safety & Compliance:
- Ensure all vehicles are maintained in a safe and roadworthy condition, complying with company policies and legal standards.
- Fit and verify safety kits and equipment as required.
- Maintain accurate records of all services and repairs for compliance and tracking purposes.
3. Workshop Operations:
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment in the workshop.
- Manage and handle tools, equipment, and spare parts with care and responsibility.
- Assist the Parts Officer Intern with identifying and sourcing necessary parts.
4. Team Collaboration & Reporting:
- Work closely with the Lead Mechanic and the Maintenance Supervisor to prioritize work orders.
- Provide clear and accurate feedback on vehicle status, repair timelines, and parts requirements.
- Support the overall goals of the transport department by contributing to a culture of continuous improvement and efficiency.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Education: Minimum of a Technical/Vocational Certificate in Automotive Repair or a related field.
- Experience: At least 3-5 years of proven experience as an auto mechanic, preferably in a fleet environment.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficient in diagnosing and repairing vehicle systems (engine, transmission, brakes, electrical, etc.).
- Experience with a wide range of vehicle makes and models.
- Ability to use diagnostic software, repair manuals, and various tools and equipment.
- Certifications: Relevant professional certifications (e.g., ASE) are a strong advantage.
- A requirement of this role is the successful verification of all academic and professional qualifications by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).

Working Conditions:
- This role primarily operates in a workshop environment.
- May require occasional overtime or weekend work to meet operational demands.
- Involves physical tasks such as lifting heavy objects, bending, and standing for long periods.
